What is WIJARA Racing?
WIJARA (Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa Junior Racing Association) is a youth traveling race program.  WIJARA offers four races at other ski areas throughout the season as well as a year-end Spring Championship right here at Mt. La Crosse. These races will also be counted as NASTAR events, which will give some athletes the opportunity to compete in the NASTAR Nationals. WIJARA was originally created to offer a traveling race program in a less competitive, less expensive, less time-consuming environment than that of the full-fledged USSA program.

In general, WIJARA races are closer to home, fees are lower and the division of age categories allows even young children the chance to feel successful with on-the-road racing.  WIJARA is a great entry-level race program and a low-cost alternative for older junior racers seeking a challenge beyond local racing.  With its lower fees and shorter traveling distances, WIJARA is a great way to broaden your race experience and hone your skills. 

Parent volunteers for the various positions are a vital part of this economical program. Thank you for your assistance!

Age Categories:
J1: 17/18      J2: 15/16      J3: 13/14      J4: 11/12      J5: 9/10      J6: 8 & under

Points:
Points are awarded to the top ten finishers in each age category with a cumulative score being awarded to each team as well. Trophies are awarded at each race to the top five finishers in each age category and to the top five teams with the most overall points. Year-end trophies are awarded to the top five finishers in each age category with the most points for the overall season and also the top far teams with tile most cumulative points.

Attn: HS Alpine Racers:
Because many of you would like more competition outside our little conference, we have one option available for SKIERS.  WIJARA is very affordable and serves nearly 400 junior racers of all ages.  It emphasizes “team,” healthy competition, and a fun atmosphere.  Your involvement will only make you a better racer, and of course, your high school team a stronger program!  We are looking into options such as doing just one or 2 weekends of this traveling program.  If you are even tentatively interested, please let us know!
